The BANGUL ACCORD GROUP AVIATION SAFETY OVERSIGHT ORGANIZATION (BAGASOO) is a subsidiary of the BANJUL ACCORD GROUP (BAG), a regional Civil Aviation body that comprises of seven West African States namely Gambia,Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Cape Verde and Sierra Leone all of whom met in Banjul, Gambia on Jan. 29, 2004 to sign the Banjul Accord Group (BAG)Agreement.
This agreement requires BAG member States to harmonize their policies and procedures in the area of aviation safety and to foster the development of civil aviation through cooperative arrangements between the States. From inception, BAGASOO was technically, administratively and financially managed by ICAO through African member State’s contributions. BAGASOO became autonomous from ICAO management on 1st January 2007.
The Technical Committee on Finance and Administration is responsible for the review and monitoring of comprehensive implementation programmes. The Committee provides advice to the Board through the Executive Director on all financial and administrative matters presented before it for consideration.
Speaking on Monday, during the opening of the meeting, the Director General of Liberia Civil Aviation Authority, Hon. Emmanuel J. Nuquay stressed the critical importance of member states collectively shouldering the financial responsibility if BAGASOO is to remained a viable entity. More details still developing…stay toned!
