Liberia Civil Aviation Authority Hosts ICAO Regional Safety Team Mission
Harbel, Margibi, Liberia – May 20, 2024- The Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) is pleased to announce that it is hosting a mission from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Regional Office Safety Team (ROST).
The ROST team is in Liberia from May 20, 2024, to May 31, 2024, to assist the LCAA in its efforts to improve its aviation safety oversight system and achieve a passing score on the ICAO Effective Implementation (EI) scorecard. This initiative is a direct result of a request from the new leadership of the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority(LCAA) under the leadership of Mr. Julius D. Dennis who upon talking over the affairs of the CAA requested the ICAO Regional Office for an assist mission to help remedy the dismal score highlighted in the International Civil Aviation Organization/Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program - Continuous Monitoring Audit (ICAO/USOAP-CMA) results of the Liberian aviation sector. The result highlighted two Significant Safety Concerns (SSC) amongst others.
The ICAO EI scorecard is a critical tool used to assess a country's compliance with international safety standards. A passing score is essential for maintaining Liberia's good standing within the international aviation community.
"We are committed to providing a safe, secure, and efficient air transport system in Liberia," said Stephen R. Johnson Acting Director General of the LCAA. "The expertise and guidance provided by the ICAO ROST Mission will be invaluable in achieving this goal." He added.
The ROST team will work closely with LCAA officials to identify areas for improvement in Liberia's aviation safety oversight system. They will also provide recommendations on how to implement the necessary changes.
"The LCAA is eager to learn from the vast experience of the ROST team," said Stephen R. Johnson Acting Director General. "We are confident that their findings and recommendations will serve as a roadmap for further enhancing aviation safety in Liberia."
The LCAA is committed to implementing the recommendations of the ROST team in a comprehensive and timely manner. This commitment will ensure that Liberia's aviation sector continues to grow and thrive. Mr. Johnson emphasized that these activities are geared towards furthering the ARREST agenda of H. E. President Joseph Nyumah Boakai.
