Mr. Varney Landa Matthews, an Aviation professional with more than 15 years of work experience in the aviation industry. He’s an International Certified Airport Employee, with certifications from all major aviation entities including International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), International Air Transport Association (IATA), and aviation industries of the People Republic of China, Singapore, and Korea Republic.

He has worth of trainings in Aerodrome Certification & Standards, National Inspection Program (Safety and security), Crisis Management, Aerodrome Safety Management System, Airport Comprehensive Management, Air Transport Management and others like the Global Symposium on the Implementation of Innovation in Aviation, Empowering aviation through seamless implementation solutions, Cooperative Development of Aeronautical Meteorology Services in the Africa Indian Ocean Region, Navigating the Geopolitics of Aviation in the New Normal, Aviation & Climate Change.

Mr. Varney Landa Matthews has worked in senior management positions both as a service provider /operator, at the Roberts International Airport and as a regulator, the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority, LCAA. 

At the Roberts International Airport Manager /LAA he served as the Manager, Operation and Compliance Department, Acting Group Manager, Technical Services; and Acting Deputy General Manager/Deputy Managing Director, Technical Services.

At the Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) he served in capacities as IT/Communication Engineer, Aerodrome Engineer and now the Director of Aerodromes and Ground Aids (AGA). He is LCAA focal person on Aerodromes and Ground Aids responsible for establishing laws and regulations governing airports, adapt best practices for local airport operations; ensure airport certification, conduct oversight and inspections; preparation and implementation of AGA Corrective Action Plan (CAP) for ICAO USOAP 2022 Audit; coordinate Aerodrome/Airport safety related activities; work with local and international agencies on airport activities, Liberia’s representative to BAGASOO / WACAF as AGA Specialist. He served as the Team leader on the Certification of the Roberts International Airport (RIA) back in 2010, the first certification program; the implementation process which guaranteed Delta Airlines arrival and operations in Liberia.
