LCAA Hosts Introductory Meeting of the National Civil Aviation Security Committee
Monrovia, Liberia – August 22, 2024 – The Liberia Civil Aviation Authority (LCAA) successfully convened the inaugural meeting of the National Civil Aviation Security Committee (NCASC) on August 22, 2024 at the LCAA's headquarters in Harbel, Margibi County. The committee was established by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. as part of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requirements for state to be in full compliance. In the 2022 ICAO audit, Liberia scored low marks because of its failure to constitute this committee.
The NCASC is a crucial body established to coordinate and oversee civil aviation security matters in Liberia.
The meeting brought together representatives from various government agencies, including the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Justice, the National Security Agency, Liberia Revenue Authority, Liberia Airport Authority, Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transport and the Liberia National Police.
These key stakeholders discussed the importance of strengthening Liberia's civil aviation security infrastructure to ensure the safety and protection of passengers, aircraft, and airports.
During the meeting, the LCAA presented its vision for the NCASC, outlining its role in developing and implementing a comprehensive civil aviation security plan. The committee also discussed potential areas of collaboration and identified key priorities for the coming months.
Honorable Julius Dennis, Jr. Director General of the LCAA, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of the NCASC and its role in enhancing Liberia's aviation security.
The LCAA remains committed to working closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of Liberia's civil aviation sector. The establishment of the NCASC is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
